An Exceptional Evening At La Sirena: Fine Dining, Award-Winning Wines, and Memorable Moments
We enjoyed an early dinner at La Sirena, arriving at 5:45. It's easy to forget how delightful it can be to have a restaurant nearly all to yourself, as you can see in the first picture. Our evening began with a warm welcome from Chef and Owner Marcello Fiorentino at the entrance, followed by the attentive service of head waiter Andres and the rest of the staff.
One of the perks of dining early is the ability to choose your preferred seating since there were no reservations holding tables. We were also delighted to discover that you can dine at the bar or even book the private room above the kitchen for larger parties (seating up to 8). This room also serves as the wine cellar, adding a special touch to the ambiance.
The restaurant's location, originally a gas station, sets it back from the street and boasts some unique features. Additionally, they offer complimentary valet service, which is a significant convenience.
While La Sirena doesn't serve hard liquor, they more than make up for it with an exceptional, award-winning wine selection. Their Grand Award from Wine Spectator, consistently earned for over four years, speaks to the quality of their wine offerings.
La Sirena's wine list is extensive, presented in two large Moleskine wine selection books. The first booklet showcases wines available by the glass, while the second features wines by the bottle. Notably, their use of Riedel wine glasses enhances the wine-drinking experience, as evident in the second photo.
Choosing from the menu can be challenging, given the array of delightful, Italian options. For our meal, we started with the Insalate Sirena, a half order of chopped lettuce, mushrooms, red peppers, and diced tomatoes, drizzled with a light house dressing. The bread we received was so delectable that it deserved its own photo! Another appetizer worth trying is the baked clams, lightly seasoned with oregano.
For our main courses, we had the Capellini Della Casa, featuring perfectly cooked angel hair pasta with a tomato and basil sauce. At our table, one guest opted for the Cannelloni, a specialty of the house. These homemade crepes stuffed with veal, spinach, and cheese in a light cream sauce simply melted in our mouths. You have the option of a half or full portion, making it suitable for both starters and main courses.
Deciding between the Veal Chop and the Veal Escalopes was no easy feat, but you really can't make a wrong choice. For this visit, we chose the Veal Escalopes, sautéed in white wine and butter with melted Fontina Cheese, and served with vegetables. The photo below shows a half order of this delicious dish.
Overall, our dining experience at La Sirena was exceptional, from the warm hospitality to the impressive wine selection and delectable menu offerings. It's a place we would happily return to for another memorable meal.
